“He is present in His word, since it is He Himself who speaks when the holy scriptures are read in the Church.”
Vatican II: Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, #7
The Lector Ministry is a ministry of sharing the word of God. The ministry is comprised of volunteers who bring scriptures to life for all to hear. A lector is not exalted at Mass, but rather humbly serves this role and then blends back into oneness with the community.
Two lectors proclaim the first and second reading at each Sunday Mass. Unless a deacon is present, the lector also reads the Universal Prayer or Prayer of the Faithful. Adults who have completed Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation) may participate in this ministry according to established guidelines and after proper training.
In preparation for the Sunday readings, members of the Lector Ministry gather as a group to prayerfully reflect on scripture passages. We meet regularly to keep abreast of Liturgical Events, church activities, plan training sessions and fellowship with one another.
